Name: Biodiversity at its Best: Solon Dixon Preserve and Splinter Hill Bog
Date: March 5, 2019 - March 7, 2019
Event Description:
It’s a field trip, and a favorite one at that! Led by Fred Nation, Field Botanist and Environmental Consultant, and John Manion, Kaul Wildflower Garden Curator with the Friends of Birmingham Botanical Gardens, explorers will see Andalusia’s Solon Dixon Preserve, where crystal-clear, spring-fed springs; a turquoise-hued lake; pitcher plant bogs; cypress ponds, longleaf pond habitats; and much more will make you wish you could stay longer. Next you’ll head to Splinter Hill Bog in Bay Minette where you’ll see the largest population of pitcher plants in the world and, not to be outdone, several species of carnivorous plants! Sponsored by the Friends of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, this field trip is part of the Friends’ Certificate in Native Plant Studies (CNPS) curriculum, but all are welcome.
